The transition from a hobby into RuneScape Gold a fan-based project was definitely scary however, looking back at my current situation, and the kind of support I've received from the beginning of Games by Malcs as an young and promising studio, it's definitely paid off for the most successful."
Despite the close ties that existed between Melvor Idle and RuneScape, and the involvement direct of Jagex in the game, the publisher decided to maintain the game as an original IP and not make it an officially-licensed RuneScape spin-off. This was in part recognition of the fact that Malcolm was successful where Jagex did not.
"We actually did look at developing the idle RuneScape game a number of years ago when we launched RuneScape: Idle Adventures," Pfeiffer shares. "In Alpha, we stopped development and focused attention on main RuneScape games.
We have always believed RuneScape's potential in the idle space and Melvor Idle more than proves that RuneScape can create a fantastic idle game. But Melvor Idle stands up on its own merits, in addition to our desire to stay true to the vision for games that Brendan was able to envision when he began creating Melvor Idle."
Pfeiffer cites the success of Melvor Idle as evidence that the talent that is available can be found in the community of any game that Jagex is already recognizing. "We've always been able to find this RuneScape group to be an excellent source of talent for Jagex and not just as game designers but for all the other tasks within a games studio," he says. "RuneScape has more than 300 million accounts created over 20 years, and the number of skilled players that OSRS Gold For Sale have played the game is staggering."
