The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) on Friday (Aug 5) ordered a recall of two more Haagen-Dazs ice cream products due to the presence of ethylene oxide, a pesticide that is not authorised for use in food.

The implicated products include Haagen-Dazs' Cookies and Cream 473ml pints with an expiry date of May 27, 2023 and Belgian Chocolate 100ml "mini cups" with an expiry date of Jun 8, 2023.

Both affected products are from France.

"Although there is no immediate risk to consumption of food contaminated with low levels of ethylene oxide, long term exposure may lead to health issues", said SFA in a media release.

The agency added that exposure to ethylene oxide "should be minimised as much as possible".

The recall is ongoing.

In a response to CNA's query, importer Frosts Food & Beverage said that following the "voluntary recall" of Haagen-Dazs' Vanilla ice cream last month, the brand owners, General Mills, have taken the precautionary additional step of extending the recall to two other products.
