The company has applied for two trademarks in UK One trademark is for "OSRS gold" as well as another with the title "RS Gold" The filing noting that the firm has registered the use of the terms as words. This will likely stop third-party websites from having the ability to market their products as RS Gold.

A simple Google search for either of these terms brings up hundreds of websites, some of which have one of these terms in their URLs, and that provide currencies in RuneScape with real money. This was in response to the news of Wednesday, October 13, that Jagex was putting an end the practice of "real-world trading". On its blog "The RuneScape Team" explained that "gold that is purchased via RWT real-world trading can be a problem in every online game that has a trading currency."

Jagex promises to be sending "messages to those we've identified as engaging on"RWT" within "the next few hours". "For anyone involved, we want to make it clear that this is your one all-encompassing warning" Jagex added.
