Ash, are you sensing that as well? That's the humidity ebbing, the heat fading, and the impending seasonal closet swap. Like me, you may be eager for lighter garments and airier days. This is where the season's maxi dresses come in; they add a touch of drama, style, comfort, and panache to the business of dressing for fall. The maxi dress is the perfect fall wardrobe staple and easy look to throw on and go. That's about as simple as getting dressed gets.

However, if the thought of summer's conclusion has you feeling less than stellar, I have some encouraging news for you. Say "Hell no" to putting away your favourite summer maxis in storage after Labour Day to prolong the dog days: Instead, you should give them a look that works well in the cooler months (hello, cosy jackets and must-have boots).

Ahead, long skirts and dresses in gorgeous colours and one-of-a-kind designs, made from a variety of fabrics (sweater knits, satin, cotton, and more) will sweep the floor. These fall maxi dresses will have you swept off your feet, whether you're headed to the office, brunch with the girls, or to a party.

When the weather is hot, one of my favourite ways to feel more feminine is to float down the street in a flowy maxi dress. This summer favourite, however, can live beautifully into the fall months if worn with the correct amount of layering.

The first tip is to treat your maxi dress as a long skirt and search for layers that would normally be worn with a skirt or over a skirt and top. The second is to wear thicker clothing and footwear when the temperature lowers.

Even though a summer maxi dress is made of airy fabric, it can be worn over and under other garments to create a delightfully versatile piece that can be worn from the first day of pumpkin spice lattes all the way through to Halloween. Here are three ways to wear it, as suggested by some of the most stylish bloggers on the internet.

Together with a Vest

I can envision this dress with a fur vest or a cargo jacket and boots and looking totally different. With the top layer open and the belt holding it in place, the paisley pattern can be used to create the illusion of a slimmer figure. Even if you're wearing a lot of large tops, the belt will assist draw attention to your waist.

Also, if you stick to neutral colours like black and white, your summer wardrobe will feel perfectly appropriate all year round. The colour scheme is on-point and current at all times. In addition, having a few key black pieces in your winter wardrobe can serve as a terrific grounding anchor.

In an Oxford

Goddiva shows how to wear an oxford shirt with a maxi dress, whether it's chambray, gingham, or any other shirt from a guy's closet. To avoid unsightly bunching in the back, start by tucking the shirt into itself from the back. Wrap it around your front, just below your natural waist, and tie it. If it's too high, you'll end up looking like you have an empire waist, and if it's too low, your curves will be hidden.

Furthermore, the necklace's accent is a lovely finishing touch. It allows for the "V" shape of cleavage to be created, which is aesthetically pleasing even when the top is buttoned all the way down.

In A Sweater

A sweater, by Trade Gala, is the ideal way to keep her feminine form warm as the weather begins to get colder. The trick is to pick a sweater with a thin cut, even if the yarn is chunkier, like this one, so that the shape doesn't swallow you or add too much bulk. Of course, the key to highlighting your waist is to wear a belt.

Her double-buckled belt in dark brown is the ideal accessory for a sweater of this heft. A thin belt might not have been noticed, whereas a large belt could have been taken the wrong way. This is the perfect width in the middle, and I've placed it to my wish list.
