Did you think maxi dresses can only be worn during the warm months? If you think that, rethink it. When properly layered, a floor-length, summertime maxi dress can become a cozy, sophisticated winter outfit.

You may need to put away the strapless and backless styles until next summer, but there may be some that are knitted and have long sleeves that may be worn now. As a personal shopper, I often suggest creative ways for my clients to reuse and repurpose goods they already own. The following are some ideas for styling a maxi dress for winter that will keep you warm and comfortable without sacrificing your sense of style.

Wearing a Leather Jacket over a Maxi Dress

It can be challenging to find a suitable jacket for a floor-length dress. Jackets that are too long might make their owners feel smothered, while coats that are too short can look out of place. Pairing a leather jacket that nips in at the waist with a maxi dress is a certain way to make the wearer look taller and thinner. Wear with this season's must-have combat boots or a simple pair of white sneakers to complete this edgy street style outfit.

Put on your finest fur (or imitation fur) vest and go out.

Choose a long-sleeved maxi dress in knit or floral patterns, and layer a sleeveless faux-fur vest or gillet over the top. A feeling of cosiness and warmth will be conveyed. The gilet not only adds a touch of winter appropriateness to the ensemble, but also a touch of bohemian flair. Winter fedora, bold sunglasses, and ankle boots provide the finishing touches to your outfit.

Dresses That Hit At The Tummy

What about dresses that fall somewhere between floor length and knee length, known as midi length? Your legs will stay warm if you wear thick tights under your knee-high boots. One of my go-to winter outfits is a knit or flowy midi dress with a beautiful knee-length boot. In order to complete an elegant winter outfit, a stunning long coat is the final touch.

Turtlenecks

One of the best methods to stay warm in the winter is to wear layers. Wear a lightweight thermal turtleneck underneath your summer maxi dress, or layer a knitted turtleneck sweater over your dress. For maxi dresses, one of these choices is fine. If you plan on layering with a jumper, it's important that it fits properly in terms of length. Dresses In A Shirt Over The Top

Do you wear a shirt as a dress in the winter? So why shouldn't they? A shirt dress is the perfect winter layering piece because it can be worn in so many ways. If you get a dress that buttons along the front, you can wear it buttoned, partially buttoned, or open like a long coat.

Turtleneck

Throw on a shirt over your turtleneck and leather pants while leaving the bottom buttons undone. Throw on a hoodie over your turtleneck and leather pants. One of my go-to outfit combinations is a shirt dress worn over a pair of cropped denim and ankle boots. Adding a shorter item of clothing is all it takes to create a great layered look. The winter months don't have to be characterised by gloomy, unpleasant weather. Colourful maxi dresses can be worn year-round if layered properly, even when the temperature lowers. As you arrive, you will bring some cheer to the gloomy day. Wow, that's a nice change of pace.

One of my favourite things to do in the cold is to play around with new ways to wear my summer outfits. See this post to learn how I took my black linen summer dress into the fall and winter seasons.
