Eero is one of the most popular mesh router systems available today. And with good reason. Eero provides simple, effortless Wi-Fi design and performance. Since Eero's launch, a number of folks have asked how they can using Eero with existing router.
It's not uncommon for people to have an existing router that they want to continue using with Eero. In the case of many consumer-grade routers, Eero is able to provide a stable, fast WiFi experience alongside the router. This is incredibly convenient for customers who have a consistent WiFi experience they love and don't want to start from scratch. But it's also helpful for customers who have a poor or inconsistent WiFi experience with their router and want to see if Eero can improve things. We're here to help! This guide will help you get started with setup Eero with existing router.

Steps to Connecting devices to your eero Network
Using eero with a non-eero router is a common question that's come up since the launch of eero. While it may be possible to add eero to an existing network, we're not recommending it right now, and we have a few reasons why.
First, eero is fundamentally designed to work with eero and only eero. We've built things into our mesh technology that make it so devices talk to the device closest to them. This is called Neighbor Awareness Networking (NAN) and is a key technical feature of eero and why the system works so well. With some other network systems, devices can talk to a different router than the one closest to them, but that doesn't happen here. So adding eero to a network of another brand of router won't work as well as adding another eero if you're unhappy with your current setup.
Second, there are many factors that go into a great WiFi experience and we're still learning about how adding eero to an existing network affects those factors. Third, we've seen a few customer implementations of eero + other router and those customers had some issues that were complex to resolve. So at this time, we recommend add eero to new or existing eero only.
