The Carson Wentz trade is the gift that keeps on giving. (Or taking away, if you're Mike Singletary Jersey the Colts.)
Indianapolis will have to wait a long time to make its first pick in the 2022 NFL Draft; the Colts are currently without a first-round selection for 2022, and they have a player who's no longer on their roster to thank for that.
With the Wentz experiment yielding disappointing results in 2021, Indianapolis traded the quarterback to Washington this offseason to try and recoup Pat O'Donnell Jersey at least a little bit of trade capital it gave up to acquire him from Philadelphia in February 2021.
MOCK DRAFT:
While the Colts got a decent return for the wishy-washy pa ser a pair of third-round picks it's not nearly as much as what they gave up to bring him to Lucas Oil Stadium. Come April 28, they'll feel the pain in the draft wallets a bit more.
Here's why:
Why don't the Colts have a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft?
The Colts traded a conditional second-round pick to the Eagles in exchange for Carson Wentz in 2021. The second-rounder became a first-rounder when Wentz took 75 percent of the team's snaps in 2021.
Given Wentz's injury history and his general ineffectivene s in his Ha Ha Clinton-Dix Jersey last year with the Eagles, maybe the Colts felt there was a chance he wouldn't satisfy the conditions for the pick to escalate.
Here's the 2021 trade in total:
Coltsreceive quarterback Carson Wentz;Eaglesreceive 2021 third-round pick (No. 84 overall), conditional Dick Butkus Jersey 2022 second-round pick (conditions satisfied,No. 16 overall).
The Eagles would trade their third-round pick to the Cowboys in addition to a first-round pick swap in an in-draft trade that would land Philadelphia wideout Devonta Smith. The Cowboys would use Colts' third-round selection on Iowa defensive end Chauncey Golston.
Earlier this month, Philadelphia would in turn trade the Colts' No. 16 overall pick to the Saints in exchange for a future first-round selection and more.
So, while there was a lot of wheeling and dealing with the Colts' picks, the simple fact remains that Indianapolis will be without a first-rounder come April 28.
Who Riley Ridley Jersey is picking in the Colts' position?
The No. 16 overall pick, which originally belonged to Indianapolis, was initially dealt to the Eagles in the Wentz trade. The Eagles then sent the No. 16 pick to the Saints for a future first-round pick Joel Iyiegbuniwe Jersey and more. So, the Saints are currently picking with the Colts' first-rounder.
Colts draft picks 2022
As it stands, the Colts are currently working with six total selections in the 2022 NFL Draft.
They secured a second- and third-round pick from Washington, with their first selection of the draft coming on Day 2, in the second round (No. 42 overall).
