    Taber 5135 Single Abrasive Wheel Rotary Abrasion Tester

    The Taber Rotary Abrasion Tester is available in two models: the 5135 model with a single sample disc and the 5155 model with a double sample disc. This device is widely used for surface testing of solid materials such as sprayed, painted, plated, and plasticized surfaces, from natural silk to upholstery textiles, metals, leather, rubber, and oil carpets. Skilled testers can use both models to make repeated, accurate measurements according to the properties of the material itself.

    The product is compact and durable. The sturdy housing is equipped with a control panel with multiple controls, LED digital display and input keys. The Model 5155 friction and wear tester allows two identical or dissimilar materials to be tested separately or simultaneously for comparison and contrast. The double sample disc doubles the efficiency. Models 5130 and 5150, which use 115 V, 50/60 Hz AC power, are also available.

    Unique abrasion process
    The material to be tested is placed on a turntable and two abrasive wheels are pressed against the material with a certain pressure to abrade it.

    The wheels rotate with the rotating surface of the sample disc, generating relative motion and abrasion, while the offset of the wheels' axes from the rotating axis of the disc during rotation generates a sliding motion, thus abrading the material. When a 30 cm2 sample is subjected to abrasion, the surface material of the sample is abraded by full-angle particles or filaments to form a complete circle.

    The Taber 5135 Abrasion Tester is the most powerful accelerated wear tester available. The test function can be changed by changing accessories. This durable instrument can be tested repeatedly on the same point on a material up to approximately 0.5" thick that is broken or worn away.

    The selection of different abrasive wheels and accessories allows for different tests to be performed to simulate different realistic abrasion conditions.
